Afternoon Breakout Sessions 1 (Two Options)
Option A: The Need for Spiritual Care and Crisis Management for the Military, Police, and Jail Management and Penology Officers, Staff, and Chaplains by Rev. Dr. William Greaver III, BCCC, BCSCP Chancellor & Professor, SCA University of Theology and Spirituality
● Identify the different faces of PTSD among officers and staff in the military, police, and jail management agency to mitigate the impact of these experiences on their personal and family lives ● Discover new intervention models and spiritual care best practices from actual cases/case studies that officers, chaplains, and staff can use to help de-escalate crisis situations and prevent suicide among the service member population ● Simulate how to create safe peer communities within the military, police, and jail management agency that can provide immediate and critical incident stress management and spiritual care during crisis situations ● Learn what it means to be a Certified Crisis Chaplain or a First Response Chaplain
Option B: The Relevance of Spiritual Care and Spiritual Care Practitioners in Hospital Management and Total Patient Care by Rev. Dr. Eric J. Hall President & CEO, Spiritual Care Association
● Understand workplace trauma among doctors, nurses, caregivers, and other medical staff and why healthcare professionals also need spiritual care ● Making healthcare whole: Understanding why spiritual care should be part of total patient care from a medical perspective ● Discover the role of Spiritual Care Generalists, Clinical Chaplains, and Spiritual Care Practitioners in enhancing patient care and bridging the gap between the patients and their families and the medical doctors and hospital staff ● Understand the need for inclusion of Clinical Chaplains and Spiritual Care Practitioners in the interdisciplinary team |

Option A: The Need for Professional Spiritual Care in Holistic Addiction Treatment and Recovery by Matthew Owen, MA, MALS, CPE Supervisory Education Fellow Chaplain & Spiritual Counselor, Caron Treatment Centers
● Develop a holistic understanding of addiction and substance abuse from psychological, medical, and spiritual care perspectives ● Discover how spiritual care is integrated into addiction recovery based on best practices from addiction treatment centers in other countries ● What are Addiction Chaplains?: Learn the role of Chaplains and Spiritual Care Practitioners in addiction recovery and the competencies and standards needed to provide quality of care ● Learn new models and practical examples of providing spiritual care as part of holistic therapy for addiction treatment
Option B: The Relevance of Psychodynamic Supervisory Training and Industrial Chaplains in Transforming the Corporate Culture and Creating Sustainable Leadership in Organizations by Rev. Dr. Maria Theresita Escandor, BCCC, BCSCP Founder & Chairperson, Vanderpol Center for Leadership and Pastoral Formation, Inc.
● Understand workplace trauma in the corporate setting and why we need to redefine our concept of workplace wellness to incorporate mental health and spiritual care ● React or Respond: Discover how having an awareness of one’s sense of self enhances a supervisor’s ability to respond to crisis situations ● A Psychodynamic Model of Supervisory Training for the Corporate Setting: Discover how psychodynamic and CPE-based approaches can be used in order to prepare supervisors for their roles and enhance their relational and crisis management competencies (based on actual case studies) ● What are Industrial Chaplains?: Learn the role of Chaplains and Spiritual Care Practitioners in the workplace and how they can be an organization’s critical partner in developing more engaged, committed, integrated, and transformational leaders
